Hi all -
My girls and I also made the TS rounds today. Found a hardback copy of "Trapped Beyond the Magic Attic" at the Salvation Army for $1.59. Thought the price was a bit high, but went ahead and bought it because it is in like new condition, and the original price was $12.95.
Are the Magic Attic books any good? It seems from looking at the inside sleeve of the cover, that this is one of two books that include all the girls? The rest seem to center on each character, similar to the AG stories? Or am I totally wrong?
Now, to find some time to read this one! All I need is to get hooked on the Magic
Attic dolls!

You actually got the only book that includes all girls.
The first book with more than one girl (The Secret of the Attic) was published when Rose was not yet part of the collection.
The stories are quite good. My favorite is the one with Keisha and the Snow Queen.
They are more in the fantasy realm than AG stories woould be, but they are good and go very well with the outfit (each book goes with one girl and one outfit.)
You can get lots of the books in ebay for relatively good prices.
Enjoy!

I love my Magic Attic dolls these are the Tonner ones with wigs, there bodies are smaller around then the AG's.
After my TS I stopped by a dollar store since simeone had said they found Jess size monkey at on of those types. I didn't actually find a monkey the same size but one a little bigger and in brown. Oh and I found 2 Magic Attic Books...Cowgirl Megan and Cheyenne Rose for a dollar each.

Ok, this might be bad......
I went over to ebay to check out these dolls. They are pretty darn cute, IMHO.
What sort of price would be "good" on one of these dolls? And are they all as easily available as each other, or are some harder to find (less popular when they were still made)?
And are their bodies similar in construction to the AG dolls, except that they are skinnier? Or do they have vinyl torsos?

I paid $22.50 each for Megan and Rose (who belong to my niece). They were NIB from Prilly Charming. Caitlin just loves her dolls! Doll Market has good deals on the clothes, just watching the shipping charges. The more you order at once, the better shipping is.
I found that same book at a B&N used book store. Caitlin got if for Christmas. I paid $2.75. I also found Alison of Arabian and Cheyenne Rose at Dollar Tree- and almost had a heart attack! Unforuntely, those are the only books she has.

What is Prilly Charming? A store?
And thanks for the clue in on Dollar Tree--I'll have to check there for more books!

The older ones made by Robert Tonner have wigs, the newer made one were rooted another company. These rooted one have a different face mold and have problems with the rooted hair, they were replacing them free heads with wigs but are no longer making these dolls. So I would before buying one ask the seller if the doll is wigged or rooted.
As for price it depends on the doll. I did pay about $25 for Megan from Phillycharm back when there was alot to be had, but since then the price has gone up. The other doll is Kiesha with many tiny braid hair wig and there was less # of her made. So she was much higher in price, just can't remmber for sure what? These doll when first out went for around $100.
Magic Attics have vinyl bodies. The same as the 18' AE's and the Glory. In my picture up front os Megan wearing an AE outfit. Also in the picture is my AE, Sasha, and of course Kaya.

Let me just agree with what everyone else said! Definitely look for a Knickerbocker, wigged-hair doll, not one of the newer, rooted-hair dolls. They come up fairly often on eBay so make sure you wait for one who is NIB or in very good condition. I think they are absolutely adorable! The books aren't quite as good as AG but still fun. My favorite is "Vive, Heather!" The first book that came with the dolls, "The Secret of the Attic" is better than "Trapped Beyond the Magic Attic", IMHO.
